Today’s
expedition takes me to Noble Mountain near the SOC (SOTA Operations Center, AKA
my cabin). Jeanette went with me and it
was a pretty drive up to the landing zone.
Jeanette had gone on a hike early this morning so this would be a very
short one. We may have a longer one
tomorrow.
The
hike up to the peak from the LZ was probably less than a mile and a very gentle
climb, probably under 100 ft. Jeanette
continued hiking and then went back to the car to read while I geeked out. Setup was easy and I had good cell reception,
which means that I could chase.

I
netted 24 contacts and 3 summit-to-summit contacts via CW, and yes, my copy
still sucks. One of the operators was on
Greens Peak. I was just there and have
contacted him several times on other summits.
One of these days we will run into each other on a summit. All of the contacts were on 20 m. I tried 40 m but got nothing. Jeanette is waiting for me and thunderstorms
were moving in so it was time to exit the AO.
Jeanette
was waiting for me back at the car and we could hear the thunder booming
in. Just after returning to the SOC, the
thunderstorm was overhead and booming.
As I sit here writing this, we have light rain and some really big
cracks of thunder. Some are the deep
note shake the house boomers.
This last picture is from the pond by my villa.
