2020-02-16 Windy Peak

I headed up to what I call “Windy Peak”.  It’s actually known as W6/SD-026, 5764.  Yup, it’s name is “5764”. It’s elevation.  My sister, Mary Sue, came along for the short hike.  Even though there was snow on the ground, it was almost too warm for the fleece I had on.  Once we reached the peak, the wind was only blowing about 5 kts, the lightest wind I’ve ever experienced up here.  (route here)

Antenna setup is easy since all I needed to do was tie my telescoping pole to the stake on the top of the hill and push it up (as you can see from the video below).

CW copy skills seem to come easier for me today and I had quite a few summit-to-summit contacts.   Among the summit-to-summit contacts, I worked the top two activators in colorado, the famious YouTube SOTA dude, WG0AT, and KX0R.

After bagging enough contacts to get my points, Mary Sue and I headed down the mountain and went to lunch in Laguna where we had some really good burgers.  Then it was off to the Columbia outlet store to look for some clothing bargains.

It was a really nice day and on the way back, we shed our long sleeves for short ones.  This is an easy to access peak that I’m happy to come back to and try to work some DX again this year.
